Everyone and their mom is losing it over Taylor Swift’s latest album, The Life of a Showgirl—but one guy who’s blushing over it? Her fiancé Travis Kelce.
The Kansas City Chiefs star became the unexpected muse of one of Swift’s most talked-about tracks, Wood, which takes a, well… explicitly creative approach to describing her love for him.
Travis Kelce’s Reaction: “It’s a Great Song” (But He’s Sweating a Bit)
It’s safe to say Wood has quickly become one of Travis’s favorite Taylor Swift songs, even if he’s a little red-faced about it.
During the Oct. 8 episode of the New Heights podcast, Travis and his brother Jason Kelce couldn’t dodge the elephant (or should I say, redwood) in the room.
Jason kicked things off, hyping up the album by teasing, “Wood, great, great soundtrack,” while Travis laughed nervously. When Jason asked how he felt about the song, Travis tried to play it cool, replying with a grin, “It’s a great song.”
Jason followed up, “Do you feel cocky about the song Wood?” to which Travis responded, “Any song that she represents me in is very… I love that girl, so what do you mean? Any song that she’d reference me…”
But Jason wasn’t letting him off that easy. “That’s not just any song,” he said. “It’s not just you, though. It’s an appendage.”
Travis pretended not to get it, saying, “What? I think you’re not understanding the song… No way,” while fans everywhere screamed that Jason absolutely wasn’t.

Jason went on to joke about one of the song’s steamier lines: “Redwood tree, it ain’t hard to see / His love was the key that opened my thighs.”
“I thought redwood was a little bit… that’s a generous word,” Jason quipped. “I think if someone wrote a song about me, it’d be ‘Japanese maple, sometimes can see.’”
Even Travis couldn’t hold back laughter at that one. “That song’s great though. The beat to that song is fantastic, and that’s right up by alley, so well done,” Jason added.
Not awkward at all🤣

Travis Says He’s ‘Terrified’ of His Dad’s Reaction
If talking about Wood with his brother was bad, the thought of Travis’ dad hearing it was way worse.
In the same episode, Jason suggested they do a live listening session of The Life of a Showgirl with their dad, Ed Kelce.
Travis immediately froze. “I’m terrified,” he said with a dead-serious face. Jason laughed, saying, “We should have Papa Kelce listen to Wood live and see his reaction.”
“I’m just going to do it,” Jason added. “Even if we don’t get it on camera.” Travis’s expression said it all — he’d rather face a defensive line than that conversation.
Taylor Swift Explains ‘Wood’: “It Started Innocently, I Swear”
Even Taylor herself admitted the song took a… turn. During her Oct. 6 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she shared that Wood originally had a totally different vibe.
“I brought this into the studio, and I was like, ‘I wanna do a throwback, kind of timeless-sounding song,” she said. “And I have this idea about, ‘I ain’t gotta knock on wood.’ And we would knock on wood, and it would be all these superstitions.”
Then, as she put it, “It really started out in a very innocent place. I don’t know what happened, man. I got in there, we started vibing, and I don’t know… I don’t know how we got here. But I love the song so much.”
Breaking Down Other Songs on ‘The Life of a Showgirl’
Wood isn’t the only track I’ve dissected, obviously. Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl includes:
- Absolutely Romantic — which some think could be a subtle diss aimed at Charli XCX.
- Father Figure — rumored to reference Olivia Rodrigo or even her longtime mentor, Scott Borchetta.
Taylor might be in her showgirl era, but Travis Kelce is in his embarrassed but proud fiancé era — and I am totally here for all of it.
