Selena Gomez isn’t playing around when it comes to people taking advantage of her kindness. The Only Murders in the Building star had a little social media drama this week after someone tried to catfish her by pretending to be her former co-star Jake T. Austin—and it didn’t end quietly.

The Fake “Jake” Scandal

According to screenshots shared across social media, Selena received messages (or calls?) from someone claiming to be Jake T. Austin (her Wizards of Waverly Place co-star). The person apparently told her they were “in trouble” and needed help.

But Selena wasn’t buying it for long. She took to her Instagram Story to expose the situation, writing, “Taking advantage of me and my love for my friends… enjoy that person’s number. When Jake T. Austin is in trouble, I need to hear from him and him only.”

She even shared the phone number for a brief moment before quickly deleting the post…but not before fans grabbed screenshots.

Fans Are Confused (and Nosy) By Selena’s Post

Naturally, fans on X are losing it. Some are still trying to figure out exactly what went down, while others went full detective mode. One fan wrote, “Lmao the number disconnected when I tried it” while another added, “This got more plot twists than an episode of Wizards of Waverly Place.”

Some joked that the culprit was her nemesis Hailey Bieber (which is a major reach), and others are just shocked saying they’re surprised she blasted the phone number to her 400+ million Instagram followers.

Selenators Already Found the Account

Of course, the internet wastes no time. Within hours, Selenators claimed they’d already found the Instagram account behind the fake Jake. Let’s just say it didn’t take long for the catfish to get caught.

Selena Deletes the Story, Moves On

The post has since been deleted from Selena’s Instagram, and she hasn’t commented further. Jake T. Austin hasn’t publicly responded either.

Do you think Selena’s move was too impulsive or totally justified? Let me know in the comments!
