From missed connections to a perfectly-timed meeting, Dua and actor Callum Turner’s love story feels like something that could only happen in a movie. And now, Callum has revealed exactly how it all went down in an interview with The Sunday Times.
Callum Turner Says He Met Fiancée Dua Lipa While Reading the Same Book
Callum Turner, 35, said he and Dua Lipa, 30, met one night in Los Angeles over drinks before a mutual friend’s birthday party. And as it turns out, the universe was doing its thing.
“We sat next to each other and realized we were reading the same book, which is crazy,” Turner told the publication. “It’s called Trust [by Hernán Díaz] and I had just finished the first chapter and I told her and she looked at me and said, ‘I just finished the first chapter too.’ I said, ‘So we’re on the same page,’” he added.
Now please tell me that’s not fate.
Callum admitted the moment felt straight out of a cinematic script: “In the movie version of it I look up to the sky and I’m like, I hear you. I understand. The signs are loud, don’t worry. And that was really the first [moment],” he said.

But get this: Before that magical night, Dua and Callum already almost met several times without realizing it. “We had maybe two, three, four, five near misses over our time where we didn’t meet. Mutual friends and places,” Turner shared.
“There’s one where she went to a party and then I went to a party but I arrived minutes after she left. I arrived at 2 in the morning and she left at 1.45 – she checked her Uber and I checked a photo I’d taken opposite my friend’s house when I arrived.”
If that doesn’t sound like a Taylor Swift lyric waiting to happen, I don’t know what does.
“There were loads of things like that and then, when we were both able to, we were both single and whatever, I just thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world.”

Dua and Callum’s Brief History
After months of speculation, Dua and Callum’s romance became official in the most effortlessly cool way: an Instagram soft launch, a red-carpet debut at the Met Gala, and finally, an engagement confirmation straight from Dua herself.
“Yeah, we’re engaged. It’s very exciting,” she told British Vogue, calling it a decision to “grow old together” and “be best friends forever.”
