One of Tate McRae’s recent tour stops has the internet doing what it does best: losing its mind over a 10-second clip. The pop star, who’s currently tearing up stages on her Miss Possessive Tour, found herself in the middle of a lip-syncing scandal after a fan video showed her holding her mic upside down while her vocals kept going.
Cue the chaos.
The clip went viral across TikTok, Instagram, and X (RIP Twitter), with some critics screaming “she’s a fraud” and others defending her like their stan card depended on it.
But now, a few days after the dust has settled, Tate has finally addressed the accusations.
Tate Caught ‘Lip Syncing’ in Viral Clip
In the now-infamous video, Tate is mid-dance, giving choreography, sweating for the crowd, when suddenly, her mic isn’t even near her mouth, yet the vocals? Still vibing.
Internet detectives immediately declared, “lip-syncing confirmed.”

But full-show recordings tell a more complicated story: she does sing live for big chunks of her set, mixing in pre-recorded vocals for the choreography-heavy parts (because, yes, it’s hard to do a triple spin while belting greedy).
Fans React to Tate’s Performance
As expected, pop stan Twitter (sorry, X) is split in two. Basically, one side thinks Tate is a fraud, and the other thinks she’s being unfairly dragged for doing what every high-energy performer does (except, Beyonce, ofc).
“That mic is ON honey nice try tho,” one stan wrote. Another added, “That’s called a backing track you can clearly hear her singing.”
Tate Responds With a Bit of Sass
Instead of writing a Notes App apology (thank God), Tate took to TikTok to post a clip of herself singing Purple Lace Bra live onstage with the caption: “Cuz apparently I don’t sing in my shows :)”

The video racked up thousands of comments from fans hyping her up and dunking on the drama. One even wrote, “JUST CLOCKED THE CAPTION YES YOU SHOW THEM HATERS.”
The pop girlies can’t win. If they sound perfect, it’s fake. If they sound raw, it’s “unprofessional.” Tate McRae’s mic may have flipped, but her attitude definitely didn’t. And judging by that TikTok, she’s very much singing through the noise.
