Okay, Pop Tellers, wanna know Sabrina Carpenter’s next move? Straight-up musical magic. The Manchild queen herself is stepping into Alice in Wonderland, but not like you’ve ever seen it before.
She’s set to star in and produce an upcoming musical inspired by Lewis Carroll’s iconic 1865 novel. Yep, the one with the trippy tea party and questionable mushrooms.
The Team Behind Sabrina’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ Movie
Universal Pictures is backing the project, and the lineup is stacked. Lorene Scafaria, aka the genius behind Hustlers and Succession, is writing and directing. That alone means we’re probably getting a chaotic, stylish, and emotionally devastating masterpiece.
Producing alongside Sabrina are Marc Platt (Wicked, La La Land) and the Alloy Entertainment duo Leslie Morgenstein and Elysa Koplovitz Dutton, the same crew behind Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars. Basically, expect a lot of glam and glitter.
Sabrina Has Wanted This For a Long Time
According to The Hollywood Reporter, this isn’t some random project Sabrina stumbled into. It’s “a total passion project for the global pop star” and she actually went to Universal a year ago with “specific ideas and a lookbook.” Yep, girl had a vision.
Fun fact: According to Variety, Netflix originally had a deal with Sabrina’s company, At Last Productions, to make an Alice in Wonderland musical back in 2020, but that version never happened. Now it’s finally getting its moment, and Sabrina’s clearly taking control of the narrative.
What Should We Expect?
Details about her role are still hush-hush, but come on, it’s Sabrina Carpenter. If anyone can pull off a sparkly, mischievous, slightly unhinged Alice, it’s her. Think down the rabbit hole energy, but with a sparkly kick and killer eyeliner.
Between her recent pop domination and her acting past (Girl Meets World, The Hate U Give, Emergency), this feels like a full-circle moment for Sab.
Sabrina’s Wonderland era is officially loading, and we’re about to get a musical that’s equal parts fantasy, chaos, and pop perfection. Somebody cue the talking caterpillar, this is gonna be wild.
