I’m truly obsessed with how Selena Gomez handles the internet, because instead of clapping back, she just keeps it real.

Selena had me laughing after she shared a super candid Instagram Live on Dec. 16, where she reacted to someone asking her, “How do you shave your mustache?”

Like, people really have no chill.

Selena Reveals She Has Melasma

Instead of getting defensive, Selena laughed it off and explained exactly what was going on. “I was like, ‘I totally get it,’” she said while giggling. “It’s actually not! It’s my melasma. I take care of it and I treat it, but yeah no, it’s there.”

Girl, that level of honesty is refreshing, because us girlies know the struggles of hiding that mustache!

She even zoomed the camera in on her upper lip and added, “I actually have melasma and a pimple,” before explaining that it’s caused by sun exposure. “It’s actually from the sun, so you’ll have to obviously wear sunscreen and be careful.”

What is melasma, anyway?

For anyone who doesn’t know, melasma is a really common skin condition that causes brown or blue-gray patches on the face, especially around the upper lip, thanks to excess melanin [via Cleveland Clinic]. Sun exposure can trigger it, which is exactly what Selena said happened to her.

There are stars who turn to products like The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin Serum or the La Roche-Posay Mela B3 Serum to correct the discoloration. Surely, Selena applies something similar on her glam days.

What I loved most is that she didn’t try to hide this chronic condition. She didn’t filter it out. She didn’t pretend it wasn’t there. Selena showed up makeup-free and explained it like she was talking to a friend.

This is honestly why people ride so hard for her. She doesn’t pretend to be flawless. She normalizes real skin, real conditions, and real life — and somehow does it with kindness instead of clapping back.

More of this energy in 2026, please!
