The best-selling artist posted screenshots of a tense text exchange with an unnamed friend who accused him of “lashing out.” In the convo, Bieber passionately defended himself, saying, “My anger is a response to pain I have been thru.” He ended things with a blunt, “This friendship is officially over…blocking you now.”
He didn’t name names—but that didn’t stop fans from playing detective, as they tried to figure out who those messages were from.
All Signs Point to Auston Matthews
It didn’t take long for Beliebers to put two and two together. And, no, they’re not suspecting these messages were from his typical enemies, Selena Gomez or Benny Blanco.
Many are actually convinced the texts were directed at Auston Matthews—yep, that Auston Matthews, NHL superstar and captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The two have been tight for years, spotted courtside at games, and sharing supportive messages to one another. So if Justin’s ‘this friendship is done’ texts are about Auston… that’s a pretty major falling out.

Okay, I have to admit, these suspicions are pretty baseless. There’s been no public drama between the two, and well, the pair are still following each other on social media. But Beliebers seem to have a better instinct than most of us when it comes to their idol, sooo, yeah. The super personal tone of Justin’s messages have fans pointing fingers at Auston Matthews.

Meanwhile, fans over on Reddit are suspecting Justin’s beef is with Timothée Chalamet. According to Perez Hilton, the two recently became buddies through their partners (Hailey and Kylie Jenner are BFFs), and Bieber did mention something about a “short-lived relationship” in his texts. So fans are naturally assuming the messages could be from Timmy.
