Sabrina Carpenter loves a little Easter egg in her music, and her latest album Man’s Best Friend is no exception. The internet has been spiraling over one lyric in Go Go Juice, where she sings:

“I’m just drinking to call someone / Ain’t nobody’s safe when I’m a little bit drunk. Could be John or Larry, gosh, who’s to say? / Or the one that rhymes with villain if I’m feelin’ that way.”

Immediately, fans started decoding. “Villain” rhymes with Dylan — as in Dylan O’Brien, the Teen Wolf alum Sabrina was rumored to be linked to back in 2022. And naturally, every single Carpenter out there had to know if he caught the reference.

Dylan O’Brien’s Reaction: Pure Chaos

When Dylan popped up on Watch What Happens Live Sept. 9, Andy Cohen wasted no time asking if he caught the lyrical shade. Dylan’s face? Priceless.

“Well, I wasn’t aware,” he said with a laugh. “Oh, and my name rhymes with villain.”

But he wasn’t exactly sold on the idea. “Well, she’s never drunk dialed me,” Dylan added. Andy pushed back with, what if she did call and he just missed it? Dylan’s reply: “My house does not have good service. Yeah, you have to get me by FaceTime audio.”

Peak Dylan energy.

So… Were Dylan & Sabrina Ever a Thing?

Rumors about Dylan and Sabrina first swirled back in September 2022, but nothing was ever confirmed. And honestly? He’s not the only name fans are pointing to.

On X (formerly Twitter), Sabrina stans are decoding every lyric. “John” might mean Shawn Mendes (who denied Sabrina dating rumors in 2023). “Larry”? Possibly Barry Keoghan, who she dated between 2023 and 2024. And “gosh”? Fans think it’s a cheeky nod to Joshua Bassett, the OG Olivia Rodrigo love triangle link.

Sabrina’s Response: She’s Keeping It Cryptic

When CBS Mornings’ Gayle King tried to press her on who the song is about, Sabrina wasn’t budging. “I just wouldn’t say,” she shrugged. “It’s more fun to picture the person in their head than the person I picture in my head.”

Classic Sabrina — keeping the chaos alive.
