Selena Gomez just got emotional on Instagram — and fans everywhere are feeling it.
Days after tying the knot with her longtime love Benny Blanco, the Only Murders in the Building star opened up about her dream of becoming a mom, despite her known fertility struggles.
Selena’s Emotional Instagram Story
On Thursday, Oct. 9, Selena reshared a snapshot from Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, the new Disney+ reboot where her iconic character Alex Russo is now a mom to Billie Russo (played by Janice LeAnn Brown).
Over the pic, Selena wrote, “Alex Russo is a mommy ” and added, “Hopefully one day that’ll be me.”
She later reposted another sweet moment with Janice, saying, “We are mother and daughter,” and added, “I really am grateful for this lovely Janice child.”
Cue the tears.
Fans Flood Selena with Support
After the post went viral, fans on X (formerly Twitter) flooded her with love and emotional messages. Many shared how heartbreaking her story is, and several even encouraged her to consider adoption or surrogacy.
One fan wrote, “I’m cryingggg omg my Shayla please, just start the process to adopt a child or get a surrogate already.” Another added, “she would be such a good mom what.”
She’s Been Open About Her Fertility Struggles
Selena has spoken before about her challenges with having children. In her 2024 Vanity Fair interview, she revealed, “I haven’t ever said this…but I unfortunately can’t carry my own children. I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while…”
But she also made it clear she hasn’t given up hope:
“[But] I’m in a much better place with that. I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me. I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll look a little different. At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby.”
Selena and Benny Want a Family
Selena and Benny, who tied the knot in Montecito on Sept. 27, have both expressed their excitement about starting a family together. In a March episode of the Jay Shetty Podcast, Selena said, “I don’t know what will happen, obviously, but I love children. I love making [children] laugh; they’re just so sweet. So absolutely, when that day comes, I’m so excited for it.”
Cue the tears…That sounds like a mom in the making already…
Benny has also revealed he’s got serious baby fever by saying he’s “dreaming and praying every day” to become a dad.
Returning to Her Roots
Selena’s comeback as Alex Russo in Wizards Beyond Waverly Place has been emotional for her, too. She told Jake Shane’s Therapuss podcast that revisiting the character felt like “a new, refreshing take” and admitted, “The character ultimately shaped who I am, because I feel like I am Alex.”
Now, seeing Alex become a mom on screen feels like a full-circle moment — and maybe even a sign of what’s next in Selena’s story. Fingers crossed for our girl!
