Being a celeb might seem like the ultimate dream. The red carpets, designer fits, millions of followers, all of that. But honestly? Even the most famous people on the planet have had moments that were straight-up terrifying.

From stalkers and creepy fans to sketchy Uber rides and random real-world scares, these stars have opened up about times they truly feared for their safety. Because yeah, the spotlight can get intense… but sometimes danger finds you even when the cameras are off.

10 Celebrities Who Have Spoken Out About Feeling Unsafe

1. Taylor Swift

Taylor’s stalker stories are the stuff of nightmares. She’s had multiple restraining orders against people who’ve shown up at her home, including a 45-year-old man who would claim wild things like she’s their wife or the mother of their child.

In court documents from an incident in 2025, she revealed that the stalker “made me fear for my safety and the safety of my family,” even once holding a glass bottle that “could have been used as a weapon.”

2. Robert Pattinson

Robert has always been super chill, but even he’s admitted the fame thing got scary after Twilight. While filming Remember Me in 2009, sources revealed to NY Daily News (via Ok Magazine) that the actor had to switch hotels multiple times in a week just to dodge obsessed fans waiting outside.

Feeling “overwhelmed by all the girls” who “terrified” him, Robert spoke about how intense it got, saying, girls would “grab his neck and clothing all the time,” forcing him to up his security.

3. Demi Lovato

Crowd safety at concerts is a bigger deal than people think. Take a look at the Astroworld Festival crowd rush, for instance, where 10 people died. Thankfully, in Demi Lovato’s case, things didn’t get too dangerous, but it’s wild how something as simple as saying hi to an idol can spiral into chaos.

During a concert in Paraguay, the crowd got so wild that fans jumped the barrier and rushed the stage to hug her. Demi had to pause everything and get whisked away by security guards. When she returned to the stage, she told the crowd, “You gotta chill out.” In fact, she’s had more than a few scary run-ins with fans. Years before that, a fan actually bit one of her security guards trying to get close.

4. Kim Kardashian

The Paris robbery in 2016 completely changed Kim’s outlook on safety. Calling it “the scariest thing” she’s ever been through in her life, the reality TV star described being tied up and begging for her life as masked men stole millions in jewelry.

Afterward, she admitted on The View, “I think I’m a little bit more cautious these days about what I do share.” Kim said she stopped sharing her location in real time and became hyper-aware of what she posted online.

5. Busy Philipps

From settlements in Uber sexual assault lawsuits (yes, there were over 3,000 incidents reported between 2019 & 2020) to the fact that 13% of female Uber riders said they were made to feel uncomfortable during a ride, sitting in an Uber these days isn’t always a safe option — even for celebs.

Busy Phillips once described what can only be called a nightmare Uber ride. In 2017, she said a random man appeared in the car when she thought it was a solo ride. “I said to my husband, ‘Oh, that guy was weird. Are you sure he’s not going to kill us?’ And then from the f— way back, a voice is like, ‘I promise that won’t happen’ and there was just like a f— crazy, scary dude in way back of this Uber.” After jumping out, Busy later screamed at the “freaking creepy” Uber driver, later adding on IG, “I definitely feel like those guys were trying to murder me tonight. I legitimately feel that way and it was really scary.”

6. Benedict Cumberbatch

Before he was Doctor Strange, Benedict actually lived through a real-life horror movie moment. Back in 2004, while filming in South Africa, he and two friends were kidnapped at gunpoint after their car got a flat tire on the side of the road. The attackers tied them up, shoved them into the back of a car, and drove them into the desert.

Eventually, the kidnappers let them go, but Benedict said the experience changed him completely. “It made me impatient to live a life less ordinary, and I’m still dealing with that impatience,” he told Variety. “The near-death stuff turbo-fueled all that. It made me go, ‘Oh, right, yeah, I could die at any moment.’”

7. Selena Gomez

Selena once said she felt violated when paparazzi took photos of her in a bikini as a teenager. “I remember feeling really violated when I was younger, even just being on the beach. I was maybe 15 or 16 and photographers were taking pictures,” she recalled to Business of Fashion. “I was a young girl and they were grown men. I didn’t like that feeling,” Selena added.

She’s even had to get a restraining order after a serial stalker threatened her life. The incident in 2011 left Selena in “extreme fear,” especially after he’d visited her workplace at least three times.

8. Kylie Jenner

As part of the famous Kardashian family, there’s no surprise that Kylie has dealt with creepy invasions of privacy. One of the most disturbing moments came when Kylie was just 19. She recalled on Keeping Up With the Kardashians: “I remember when I was 19, I was wearing, like, this colorful dress, and as I’m getting in the car, the pap goes to … stomach’s on the ground, gets his camera up my skirt and takes a picture.”

Discussing her mental health and sharing her fear of safety, Kylie added, “I’m literally, like, so violated. I’m crying in the car, I’m stressed out the whole night, the whole next day…”

9. Chappell Roan

Chappell Roan has been getting real about the dark side of fame — and how scary it can actually get. In a lengthy Instagram note in 2024, she opened up about feeling unsafe because of fans’ “predatory behavior.”

“Please stop touching me. Please stop being weird to my family and friends…” she wrote. Chappell then added, “I am scared and tired… I feel the most unsafe I have ever felt in my life. I’ve been in too many non-consensual physical and social interactions.” It’s not just online boundaries either, things have gotten personal. As she said on the Comment Section podcast: “People have started to be freaks — like, [they] follow me and know where my parents live, and where my sister works. All this weird sh*t.”

10. Ryan Gosling

Look, we all love a bit of Ryan Gosling, but some fans have taken their admiration too far. Even this Hollywood hearthrob has had stalker troubles. A woman once claimed to be his “twin flame” and wouldn’t stop contacting him or his family.

After the stalker showed up uninvited late at night at his family member’s home, Ryan got a restraining order, saying he was “seriously alarmed” and had “real and reasonable fears” for their safety.

So yeah, fame or not, nobody’s immune to feeling unsafe. Whether it’s a stalker outside your house, a paparazzo crossing the line, or a freak moment that leaves you shaken, these stories prove that being rich and recognizable doesn’t come with a safety shield.
