There’s honestly no bigger “yeah, I really made it” moment than getting asked to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime Show. It’s the most-watched TV event in the U.S., and these days, the whole world is tuned in too. From the best-selling Michael Jackson to successful artists like Madonna and Beyoncé, landing that stage is basically an affirmation that you’re one of the biggest stars in the world.
So cue Super Bowl LX on February 8 at Levi’s Stadium in California. In just a few weeks, we’ll see the next chapter of Halftime Show history, this time written by Bad Bunny. The Puerto Rican superstar behind hits like Dákiti, Me Porto Bonito, and Tití Me Preguntó was announced as the headliner back in September 2025, and yeah… the internet has thoughts.
Why Bad Bunny Is Not a Popular Pick With Everyone
In true social-media chaos fashion, a loud (but small) group immediately decided Bad Bunny was the “wrong” choice — with some even claiming he isn’t American. Which, first of all, is just incorrect. Bad Bunny is Puerto Rican, meaning he is an American citizen. Puerto Rico has been a U.S. territory for over a century.
And second, this argument completely ignores the fact that non-U.S. artists have headlined before with zero backlash. U2’s 2002 Halftime Show — the emotional post-9/11 performance — is still remembered as one of the most patriotic moments in Super Bowl history. No one cared that they were Irish then.
Still, the Super Bowl is obviously a big deal. As we keep an eye on the Super Bowl betting odds, we now know the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks are set to face off in Super Bowl 60 — and Bad Bunny’s Halftime Show performance is officially locked in. He’s had months to prepare, fully aware that the Halftime Show is judged just as hard as the game itself. Sometimes even harder. Let’s be real: plenty of people who don’t care about football tune in only for the Halftime Show.

Donald Trump Slams Bad Bunny, Says He Won’t Attend 2026 Super Bowl
Bad Bunny’s name being announced also reopened some political tension around him. The artist has previously spoken out against ICE and even skipped U.S. dates on his last tour over fears of immigration raids under the Trump administration.
After the halftime news broke, Trump told NewsMax in October that he’d “never heard” of Bad Bunny and called the decision “crazy” and “absolutely ridiculous.”
Just recently, he weighed in on the Super Bowl 2026 lineup during an Oval Office interview, and made it clear he won’t be attending the game this year. The former president slammed the decision to feature Bad Bunny at halftime and Green Day during the opening ceremony, calling the picks “terrible” and claiming they “sow hatred,” per the New York Post.

Turning Point USA Announced It Would Hold an Alternative Halftime Show
The backlash didn’t stop there. Conservative group Turning Point USA announced plans for a rival halftime show, while a Change.org petition pushing to replace Bad Bunny with George Strait racked up more than 66,000 signatures last year.
Hate It or Love It, Bad Bunny Is About to Deliver
The pressure is definitely on. Recent performers have gone all out with insane visuals, surprise guests, and viral moments. Sometimes it’s about spectacle, other times, it’s about the music. Prince performing Purple Rain in an actual downpour at Super Bowl XLI (2007) is still widely considered the greatest Halftime Show ever. And then there are iconic moments like Beyoncé bringing Destiny’s Child back together in 2013. That reunion felt unreal in real time.
Bad Bunny is heading into Super Bowl LX at the absolute peak of his career. He was just named Spotify’s most-streamed artist globally for 2025 — casual flex. That said, his fame definitely hits different depending on who you ask. Your grandpa might have no clue who Bad Bunny is, but Gen-Z? Yeah, they know exactly who he is.
My take? He’s going to crush it. I’d be shocked if he didn’t bring a few surprise collaborators along for the ride. This is his moment to prove the doubters wrong… and something tells me he’s about to remind everyone why he’s one of the biggest artists in the world right now.
