Doechii’s new IG bio is doing a lot (in the best way).

Doechii just did a subtle but very loud thing online. And of course, everyone clocked it.

The 27-year-old star appears to have launched a second Instagram account alongside her main page, and front and center in the bio? The word “lesbian.” Casual. Intentional. Powerful.

The new account, @gutsgritsglamour, feels like a softer, more personal corner of the internet. In one of only two posts so far, Doechii explains she wanted a space where she could show Jaylah the human, not just Doechii the artist. (Her real name is Jaylah Hickmon, for anyone new here.)

I love that she made room for that distinction. Being a brand 24/7 sounds exhausting.

The bio itself reads like a personality mood board:
home life • wellness • books/essays • clubbing • lesbian • luxury • travel • beauty • music • side quests • fashion • film.

So, does Doechii have a girlfriend?

Yep, she does. Doechii has kept her relationship low-key, but she’s been open about the fact that she’s currently with a woman, and this isn’t some new discovery for her either.

In October 2024, she spoke to Gay Times and laid it all out plainly, explaining that this has always been part of who she is. “I think I’ve always been gay. I always knew I was gay. I’m currently bisexual. I am with a woman now, and I have always known that I loved women. I’ve been very, very aware from an early age.”

When asked on The Breakfast Club (December 2024) whether she had a girlfriend, the answer was simple and happy: “Yeah, it’s wonderful.”

She was then asked, “Does she trust you?” to which Doechii replied, “Oh my god, damn! Yeah, I would hope so!” — before confirming, “Yes, she does.”

Doechii didn’t feel safe revealing her sexuality

Even with that early self-awareness, being open wasn’t easy. Growing up in Florida came with its own set of challenges, especially in an environment shaped by racism and homophobia. “There’s a lot of racism and homophobia so it’s hard, it’s very, very hard,” she explained.

“Even though I was aware, I didn’t feel as comfortable until I started surrounding myself with more gay friends,” Doechii added. “I also grew up in the church, which is not to say that every religion denounces being gay, but it wasn’t accepted in the religion that I was in, in my environment.”

Things began to shift after she attended a performing arts school and met more queer people, but confidence didn’t arrive overnight. At that stage, she admitted she “definitely didn’t feel like I could have pride.”

Now, though, Doechii is clearly in a totally different place. She’s open, confident, and not shying away from who she is… even proudly putting it right there in her Instagram bio.
