Chappell Roan, our Midwest Princess and reigning queen of queer pop, just got real on the Las Culturistas podcast with Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers, Pop Tellers.
In a refreshingly candid convo, the singer opened up about her sexuality, mental health, and why bad sex with men helped her realize she was gay.
Chappell Roan Reveals How She Knew She Was Gay
When discussing her latest single, The Giver, Chappell went in on explaining her preferences in the bedroom. “For me, I give you pleasure, and that gives me pleasure,” she said. This led to a deeper conversation about her experiences with men. “That is my experience when I hooked up with men. That’s how I knew I was gay,” she admitted.
Chappell elaborated, “No, it just felt so performative.” She described herself as a “service top,” which is basically like, someone who finds satisfaction in pleasing their partner, even if they don’t necessarily want to. “I don’t know, like I just want to do what my partner — makes them feel good. And when I make them feel good, that makes me feel good,” she added.

This isn’t the first time the Good Luck, Babe! singer has opened up about her sexuality. In a separate interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Chappell expressed her preference for relationships with women over her past experiences with men. “But when I started hooking up with women, I was like, ‘Fu*k you guys.’ This is enjoyable, first of all. Second of all: [It’s] way, way easier. It’s actually fu**ing crazy.”
Then she dragged men for filth: “So what, you can’t find the cl*t? Work harder. It may take 10 minutes longer. That’s fine,” she told host Alex Cooper.
Chappell Talks Mental Health and Drugs
Sexuality wasn’t the only hot topic of conversation on the Las Culturistas podcast. Chappell also opened up about her mental health, saying she had to quit caffeine ‘cause she was too anxious. “I was, like, already too anxious, and so, I was like, if I want to actually calm down I have to take every stimulant away. Every stimulant.”

And she didn’t shy away from the real stuff: “I’m on a lot of f***ing drugs though,” she said, talking about being bipolar and having insomnia. “Yeah. I’ve got my — I also have insomnia. So, like, and I’m bipolar. So it’s like really hard if you are not sleeping and doing weed,” she said, noting that she still enjoys edibles and shrooms, because, urm, balance?
So yeah, our girl Chappell is out here living her truth, being hilarious, raw, and real AF. We love a queen who overshares! Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below…
