In the last couple of years, as BookTok has been popping off on TikTok, studios have taken notice and started adapting the novels that get everyone’s attention.
Even if you have no idea what we’re talking about, you’ve certainly heard of TV shows and movies like The Summer I Turned Pretty, The Housemaid, and Off Campus. Hollywood is working hard to give women what they want: good female leads and a man who yearns.
So many titles are getting adapted that it’s hard to keep track of them. If you’re curious yourself, save this guide.

1. People We Meet On Vacation
Two best friends who spend one week every summer vacationing in different places. Two best friends… they might kiss. A perfect summer movie to binge-watch. Based on the People We Meet On Vacation novel written by Emily Henry. Starring your favorite President Snow — Tom Blyth — and the wonderful Emily Bader.

A steamy hockey romance that takes place at Briar University. Follow the love story of Hannah Wells, a college student and aspiring singer, and hockey team captain Garrett Graham. Off Campus is definitely for fans of anything spicy. Based on the book series, The Deal written by Elle Kennedy.

3. Every Year After – Season 1
Second-chance friends-to-lovers reunite 10 years later in a quaint vacation town under sad circumstances. Follow Percy and Sam’s long history. The perfect series to binge in these last few weeks of summer. Based on the romance novel Every Summer After written by Carley Fortune.

4. The Love Hypothesis (2026)
Ali Hazelwood’s most beloved fake-dating romance is finally getting the screen treatment it deserves. Olive Smith, a PhD student, kisses a random professor to convince her best friend she’s moved on… except the professor turns out to be the most intimidating man in her department. Based on The Love Hypothesis novel, Lili Reinhart stars alongside Tom Bateman, with Colleen Hoover producing.

5. Verity (2026)
A writer uncovers disturbing secrets while finishing another author’s work. A disturbing psychological thriller that will take your breath away. Based on the bestselling novel Verity written by Colleen Hoover. Stacked with a drop-dead gorgeous cast: Anne Hathaway as Verity, Dakota Johnson as Lowen, and Josh Hartnett as Jeremy.
Releases October 2, 2026, in movie theaters worldwide.
6. The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (2026)
The most anticipated adaptation of the year. Following Haymitch’s backstory and the Quarter Quell Hunger Games. Dystopian sci-fi based on the famous The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping novel by Suzanne Collins. Remember to bring tissues, because these games are about to be different.
Releases on November 20, 2026, in movie theaters worldwide.

Emily Henry Cinematic Universe
We’re getting an introduction to a full-on Emily Henry Cinematic Universe in 2027. If you haven’t read any of her romance novels, then go and catch up right now because her entire repertoire is coming to our screens real soon.
7. Beach Read
Based on the novel Beach Read by Emily Henry, two opposite authors decide to swap genres for the summer, with the beautiful Lake Michigan as the backdrop. May the best author win! Your main cast consists of Phoebe Dynevor and Patrick Schwarzenegger.
The movie wrapped filming on July 30, 2026, and is coming to movie theaters on May 7, 2027.
8. Happy Place
A couple of exes still pretending they’re together on a couples’ vacation in Maine… Sounds like a second-chance romance to us. Jennifer Lopez is producing the Happy Place movie, and author Emily Henry wrote the screenplay herself. No official release date has been announced, but the film is in active development.
9. Funny Story
A very much messy story: a woman discovers her fiancé has left her for his best friend… who happens to be dating her own best friend. If you’re a little confused, then pick up the book before you watch the movie. No cast has been confirmed yet, but Netflix has acquired the rights.
10. Book Lovers
Not to be biased, but Book Lovers is my favorite Emily Henry book. A sunshine literary agent and a grumpy book editor keep crossing paths. Red-string theory in full effect. No cast or release date has been set.
Romance Book to Screen Adaptations
11. Rose Hill
All four books of Elsie Silver’s Rose Hill cowboy series are being adapted. The first two leading couples were announced by Deadline — including Hannah Galway and Sadie Dickerson. Cowboy romance, mountain settings, emotionally unavailable men learning to feel things. I am so ready.

12. Chestnut Springs
If you love the Rose Hill series, get ready because the Chestnut Springs world is coming to Netflix next. Each book follows a different Eaton brother finding love in the most complicated way possible — think bull riders, broken men learning to open up, and women who refuse to settle. Multiple seasons are planned, with each couple getting their own story. No cast or premiere date has been confirmed yet, but the cowboy romance era on screen is clearly just getting started.

13. Love Theoretically
Ali Hazelwood does it again with Love, Theoretically, another fake-dating romance set in the world of academia. Elsie is a physics grad student who has made a career out of being whoever her dates need her to be… until she accidentally ends up face-to-face with Jack Smith, her mentor’s nemesis and the last person she should be developing feelings for.
No release date confirmed yet.
14. Icebreaker
Hannah Grace’s beloved enemies-to-lovers romance book series is finally getting the screen treatment fans have been requesting for years. Anastasia Allen is a competitive figure skater who has worked her entire life for one thing: making the Olympic team. Nathan Hawkins is the hockey captain who suddenly needs her ice rink time. Forced proximity, a slow burn that will make you scream, and a romance that genuinely earns its ending.

Fantasy Book to Screen Adaptations
15. Children of Blood and Bone
Tomi Adeyemi’s groundbreaking African fantasy trilogy is finally making its way to the big screen… and not just streaming, but a full theatrical release. Set in a world inspired by West African mythology, the story follows Zélie, a young woman on a dangerous mission to restore magic to her people after a ruthless king violently stripped it away. The cast alone is enough to make your jaw drop — Viola Davis, Amandla Stenberg, Cynthia Erivo, Idris Elba, and Damson Idris. Whatever happened behind the scenes, this movie carries enormous cultural weight, which means I will be seated.
Coming to Paramount, January 15, 2027.
16. Fourth Wing
Rebecca Yarros created an entire universe with this one, and Amazon acquired the rights to the whole Empyrean series. Violet Sorrengail is forced to enter Basgiath War College — a brutal institution where dragon riders are trained and survival is not guaranteed. Xaden Riorson, the most powerful and dangerous rider there, becomes the last person she should trust and the only one she can’t stop thinking about.
No cast or premiere date announced yet, but when it drops, the internet will not survive.

17. Shatter Me
Tahereh Mafi’s beloved dystopian series is finally getting a book to screen adaptation. Juliette has a lethal touch — one that’s kept her locked away and alone her entire life. When she’s finally released, everything she thought she knew about herself begins to unravel.
Rights were acquired by Warner Bros. in June 2026, with Tahereh Mafi herself on board as executive producer, which is always a good sign. No cast or director has been announced yet, but I am choosing to be cautiously optimistic.
Announced But No Major Updates Yet
These are the adaptations that were announced with plenty of fanfare, only to go suspiciously quiet. We’re watching closely and waiting for those updates.
18. The Folk of the Air Trilogy
The first of Holly Black’s fantasy trilogy, The Cruel Prince, follows Jude, a mortal girl raised in the treacherous world of Faerie, determined to carve out a place for herself among creatures who would sooner see her dead. The love-hate dynamic between Jude and Prince Cardan is the stuff of legend in the BookTok world, and the fandom has been waiting for this adaptation for years. No cast or timeline yet, but the excitement is already impossible to contain.

19. Twisted series
Ana Huang’s addictive enemies-to-lovers series is getting its own season and couple. Twisted Love kicks things off with Alex and Ava, an overprotective best friend’s roommate meets a brooding man with secrets. Sharp, steamy, and completely unhinged in the best possible way. No cast or premiere date has been confirmed yet, but the Twisted fandom is already deep in casting debates.

20. Powerless
Lauren Roberts built an entire fantasy world around one brilliant premise: a girl with no powers in a world where powers determine everything, forced to hide what she is to survive. Paedyn Gray has spent her whole life faking abilities she doesn’t have. When she accidentally saves the life of an Elite prince, she finds herself thrust into the Purging Trials, a deadly competition she has no business being in. No cast or premiere date has been announced for Powerless yet, but the fandom is very ready.

21. A Court of Thorns and Roses
Sarah J. Maas’s beloved fae fantasy series has had a complicated journey to the screen. Hulu originally had the rights and then dropped it, which sent the internet into a spiral. The rights are now back with Maas herself, and she’s reportedly shopping the project with full creative control — which is the best possible outcome for a fanbase that is extremely protective of Feyre, Rhysand, and the Night Court.
No timeline, platform, or cast. Just hope and patience, which ACOTAR readers have in abundance.
22. The Boys of Tommen
Chloe Walsh’s Irish rugby romance series has a fiercely devoted fanbase and early development news that has readers cautiously excited. Set in Cork, Ireland, the series follows the messy, emotional, deeply addictive lives of the Tommen rugby boys across multiple books. It’s still very early days with no platform, cast, or timeline confirmed yet.
