Ariana Grande’s singing vocals are one thing…but her speaking voice is well, another…

As a serious Ariana stan, I wouldn’t dare come for her vocals (she is a vocal beast!), but when it comes to her speaking in interviews, my mind goes into overdrive. I mean, is what I’m hearing real? Does she just switch accents and change her pitch whenever she feels like it? Whatever the case, it’s a goddamn talent (and we know Ari has many of those)!

Well, Pop Tellers: I feel seen. I’m not the only one who’s confuzzled by Ariana’s changing voice. Fans are also stunned and taken aback by her constant change in pitch and accent.

And while the diva herself has given a satisfactory explanation as to why this phenomenon happens (more on that below), they can’t help but feel confused and I hate to say it: annoyed AF.

Fans React to Ariana’s New Voice and Accent

In case ya didn’t know, Ariana hosted Saturday Night Live this weekend with Fleetwood Mac legend Stevie Nicks as her co-host. The episode brought nothing but good vibes, but fans were solely focused on Ariana’s intriguing voice and accent.

There’s a whole lotta talk about the singer putting on a fake accent, and a much higher pitched tone than usual. Reddit users are taking to the comments to question why she sounds different. One user wrote, “Did Ariana’s voice change? Why does it seem higher?”

The replies were pretty salty. Someone replied, “Lol her voice is always different. She recently did an interview saying it’s because of all of her different voice work, sure Jan, she adopted a transatlantic accent for Wicked and that’s the lifestyle she’s cosplaying for the next year or two.”

Another user got really critical: “it’s wild how her stans took that as a reasonable excuse for doing blaccent for years and then dropping it when she wanted to be white again.”

While someone replied, “Exactly, she changes it for whatever personality and/or race she’s sporting that month.”

“I am tired of this fake accent Ari,” another user commented.

More Videos Of Ariana’s Voice Changing Have Gone Viral

During Vanity Fair’s Lie Detector Test, Ari’s voice was once again the biggest talking point, with fans saying it sounded considerably different to her usual “huskier” tone:

Let’s not forget this gem! Fans took notice of Ari’s voice suddenly going from deep to higher and softer at one point during her Podcrushed interview:

She was even once accused of using a “blaccent” throughout her ‘Dangerous Woman’ and ‘Sweetener’ era.

Now, we’re all hearing something reminiscent of a “transatlantic accent” – an accent that blends English and American, commonly used by actors in the Golden Age of Hollywood.

So, like, what in the Katharine Hepburn is going on here?

Ariana Explains Why She Changes her Voice

Unless you’ve been living under a rock house like the Wicked Witch of the East this past year, you’re aware that Ariana has been promoting her upcoming movie, Wicked, where she stars as Glinda the Good Witch.

Turns out, she’s basically adopted Glinda’s accent and voice in real life, because method acting is a real thing, ladies and gents.

Talking to Zach Sang, Ariana admitted that she “trained every day” to play the role of Glinda and “transform” her voice while “deconstructing” everything about herself to “prove to them she [I] could handle taking on this other person.”

The we can’t be friends artist also explained on the Shut Up Evan podcast: “I did just spend a long time playing a character every single day and training my voice to do different things. The voice is in the body; it’s an instrument, and muscle memory is a real thing. That’s a normal thing for people who, it’s their job to transform.”

Talking to Vanity Fair, Ariana discussed the scrutiny she’s faced, claiming that male actors (aka Austin Butler) have it easy:

“There is a part of the world that isn’t familiar with what it takes to transform your voice, whether it’s singing or taking on a different dialect for a role or doing a character voice for something. When it’s a male actor that does it, it’s acclaimed…”

Cool, got it, Ari!

Ariana is going to be filming Wicked Part Two very soon, so best believe this accent is here to stay for the foreseeable future, guys! Until I hear any noticeable changes, here’s a cool fan-made clip showing Ariana’s voice evolution throughout the years:
