Forget Taylor Swift (not really, but you get me) — it’s her pets that have stolen the internet’s hearts. They’ve got personalized Instagram pages; they have their own line of merchandise; and even celebrities like Ed Sheeran and Ryan Reynolds are obsessed with them.
When Taylor isn’t selling out arena tours or platinum albums, the popular star is busy cozying up to her adorable animals (plus her man, Travis Kelce, ofc). They travel with Taylor during her Eras Tour, and she even named her home studio ‘The Itty Bitty Kitty Committee’ (as her cats would make so much noise while she was recording Folklore).
Simply put, Taylor Swift’s pets are a big deal. I mean, the woman has earrings with their faces on them and even had a (somewhat freaky) cake paying tribute to them:

Known to be a real cat lover, Taylor Swift’s cats have also made appearances in some of the singer’s music videos and in TV commercials, too. With a best-selling superstar as their mommy, it’s no surprise that their net worth is in the millions. Okay, it’s kinda surprising: to be frank, these cats are richer than you, and probably spend their time rolling in a giant pile of money. Aka: they’re living the purrfect life!
In case you didn’t know anything about Taylor’s beloved pets, continue reading below — we’ve summarized everything you need to know about the Swift cat (and sometimes dog) fam.
How many cats does Taylor Swift have?
Taylor Swift owns three cats called Meredith Grey, Olivia Benson, and Benjamin Button.
What has Taylor said about her cats?
Taylor includes lines about her cats in her song lyrics, but she most recently told Time why she loves them so much:
“I have cats. I’m obsessed with them. I love my cats so much that when a role came up in a movie called Cats, I just thought, like, I gotta do this,” she said. “They’re very dignified. They’re independent. They’re very capable of dealing with their own life.”
Does Taylor Swift have any dogs?
It’s not certain if Taylor owns any dogs right now, but I did find out that she used to own two Mini Doberman Pinschers.

Indy
Breed: Siamese-Tabby mix
Indy was Taylor’s childhood family cat that apparently hated everyone but the singer (’cause you know, cats don’t just love everyone). According to Celebrity Pets, this feline friend had a very distinct meow and would run around the house screeching: a trait that’s common among Siamese cats.
The kitty that was full of character was also a renowned snorer, but most importantly, it’s the cat Taylor would turn to when she was “lonely.” Sadly, Indy passed away in 2012, but we were able to hunt down this glimpse of her in an old news article featuring a young Taylor:

Eliehsen
Breed: Siamese-Tabby mix
We don’t have much info on this particular furry friend, but it’s believed Eliehsen was Indy’s brother — also a Siamese-Tabby mix. There may not be any stories about this long-gone kitty, but at least we have some photos, which prove Taylor loved him like a best friend.

Bug and Baby
Breed: Mini Doberman Pinschers
While Taylor is a self-proclaimed cat lover, it doesn’t mean she hasn’t got time for dogs! In fact, here’s a clip of Taylor Swift liking dogs for four minutes straight (if you have that kind of time). The singer-songwriter once owned two mini Doberman Pinschers named Bug and Baby. She revealed in a Live Chat that she bought Bug at the mall. In fact, it was one of the first things she ever spent any of her songwriting money on.
It’s unclear if Taylor still owns these dogs, but it’s safe to say puppies were once a part of her pet family! Mini Doberman Pinschers are known to be a more anxious breed and can occasionally suffer from epilepsy, so it’s natural that Tay would keep them out of the limelight.

Kitty
Breed: Great Dane
Woof, she’s big! Kitty actually belongs to Taylor’s mom, but she’s still considered a special part of Swift’s pet gang. Momma Swift adopted Kitty when she was battling breast cancer, as she wanted some companionship while Taylor was out of town and on tour.

The gigantic doggie has cameoed in Tay’s documentary, Taylor Swift: Miss Americana, as well as on her social media pages.

Meredith Grey
Breed: Scottish Fold
Meredith Grey is one of the two (very famous) Scottish Fold cats owned by Taylor. Adopted in 2011 (making her 13 years-old), Taylor’s beloved furry friend is actually named after Ellen Pompeo’s character on Grey’s Anatomy. Guess you could say Tay’s a fan of the TV show.
Mer (nicknamed by Tay) has made a few appearances over the years, including in Taylor’s ME! music video, and she was even captured cozying up to Ed Sheeran in 2023. At one point, fans questioned Taylor about Meredith’s whereabouts, so the singer updated everyone on Facebook, saying, “The truth is, Meredith just HATES having her picture taken.” You can tell:

Olivia Benson
Breed: Scottish Fold
Olivia Benson is the second Scottish Fold kitty in Taylor’s household. Named after Mariska Hargitay’s character on Law & Order: SVU, this cat became one of Taylor’s pets in 2014, and was instantly catapulted into stardom (see what I did there?). More outgoing than Meredith Grey, Olivia Benson has a net worth more than you and your family combined, ladies and gents. According to Cats.com, Olivia Benson is worth $97 million.
The millionaire cat likes to get her paws stuck into various projects including a Diet Coke commercial and Taylor’s ME!, Blank Space and Karma videos. Might I also add that this nine-lifer has won the Nickelodeons Kids’ Choice Award for ‘Favorite Pet’? There’s no denying these kitties are well-fed, right?

Benjamin Button
Breed: Ragdoll
Benjamin is the youngest of Taylor’s pet cats, born in 2019. Named after Brad Pitt’s character in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, this super sweet Ragdoll first met Taylor on the set of her ME! music video. Taylor instantly fell in love with her “purr box,” and asked if she could adopt him. The rest is history, and fortunately, there’s a video that captured the entire moment. SWOON!

There’s a reason Benji might be familiar to you — he’s the literal cat that featured with Taylor on her iconic TIME cover as 2023’s Person of the Year! The kitty also has his own merchandise up and running, and has been a stable part of Tay’s life ever since.

Oh to be the beloved pet of one of the richest women in the world!
While some boring folk may think Taylor is a crazy cat lady, I’m obsessed with the adoration and devotion she has for her feline friends. I mean, it says a lot about her kind-natured character. Can’t wait to see what other pets Taylor adds to her family!
