Some celebrity feuds make total sense. But this one? It genuinely feels like it spawned from the depths of 2016 Twitter chaos.

Lately, you might’ve noticed Chris Brown and Zara Larsson’s names popping up together again and wondered: wait… why are these two even beefing?

No, there’s no collab, no secret relationship drama, and there are no diss tracks.

Just years of Zara openly calling Chris Brown out, Chris responding in the pettiest ways imaginable, and the internet somehow never letting the saga die.

Here’s exactly where the drama started — and why the Zara Larsson vs. Chris Brown feud is suddenly back in the conversation again.

March 30, 2016 — Zara Larsson Tweets: “Chris Brown is TRAAASSHHHHH”

This was the moment the internet first realized Zara Larsson was absolutely not afraid to speak her mind. Back in March 2016, the Swedish pop star posted a blunt tweet that simply read: “Chris brown is TRAAASSHHHHH.”

No context, no explanation. But fans quickly remembered that Zara had previously spoken out against misogyny and abuse, and many assumed her comments were linked to Chris Brown’s long history of controversies and allegations.

The tweet instantly went viral and became one of the earliest major moments in their feud.

September 16, 2016 — Zara Publicly Rejects Chris Brown During “Song Tinder” Interview

Months later, the feud escalated out of nowhere again. During a German interview game often described online as “Song Tinder,” Zara had to swipe left or right on songs depending on whether she liked them.

Then Kid Ink’s song Hotel came up, featuring Chris Brown, and Zara immediately swiped left.

And then came the quote that fully launched the drama into pop culture history: “Oh hell no,” she responded. “Nope. Because I don’t like him.”

But she didn’t stop there. “I do like his music, to be honest,” she continued. “I think he’s a really talented person. He can really dance and sing, but he’s not a nice person.”

Then Zara got even more direct about why she refused to support him, bringing up his abusive relationship with Rihanna: “When you’re openly just hitting on women and talking about stuff that’s just, like, not your business, and you’re trash-talking women, and you have a point of view I don’t agree with, I can’t listen to that music. I will never support him.”

The clip spread everywhere online almost instantly. And of course… Chris Brown saw it.

September 18, 2016 — Chris Brown Responds With “She WACK!” and “Stinky Butt”

This is where the feud became deeply unserious. After fans started reposting Zara’s comments online, one fan Instagram account defended her criticism of Chris.

Chris then jumped into the comments himself. “She WACK!,” he wrote. And then: “stinky butt.”

Yes. Literally.

Zara, meanwhile, found the entire thing hilarious. She quickly tweeted: “I’m laughing out f**king looouud.” And later followed it up with: “Hahahahaha.”

It’s giving more entertained than offended.

September 20, 2016 — Zara Fires Back on Snapchat

But then Zara switched from laughing… to fully dragging him. After Chris’ comments spread online, Zara launched into a Snapchat rant where she directly addressed the situation and doubled down on why she had criticized him in the first place.

“I know that he’s way bigger than I am,” she said, “and he’s a way more successful artist than me but it doesn’t mean that he can say these things.”

Then she turned the moment into a broader conversation about calling out problematic behavior among celebs.

“So whenever you guys are seeing something that you don’t believe in, like homophobic, sexist, racist comments, it doesn’t matter if they’re a famous person or not — call them out. ‘Cause it’s not right.”

And then she ended the video with: “I’d rather be a stinky butt than a sexist, homophobic, transphobic prick. Maybe that’s just me.”

March 8, 2018 — Chris Brown Fans Flood Zara’s Comments

Just when everyone thought the drama had died down, Chris Brown fans somehow revived it.

On International Women’s Day in 2018, Zara Larsson posted a female empowerment message on Instagram supporting women and criticizing misogyny.

That somehow led to Chris’s fans flooding her comments and Zara was genuinely confused by the whole thing. She responded: “Why is there Chris Brown fans in the comments? Help meee. I’m confused? Y’all think this is about him???? Lmfaoooo why would it.”

Then she addressed one fan directly after they defended Chris and insulted her music. Zara replied: “sad. This post is literally about men who can’t stand women talking about women’s rights.” She continued: “But if this description fits your idol, is that really who you tryna Stan?”

Fans immediately defended Zara online, with many pointing out that Chris Brown stans basically told on themselves by assuming her feminist post was automatically about him.

February 24, 2026 — Zara Says Chris Brown Is Blocked on Spotify

Fast forward nearly a decade later and somehow… the beef still wasn’t over. In February of 2026, Zara appeared on Cosmopolitan’s Cheap Shots series where she read cards and answered questions about music.

One card asked her to name an artist that would never appear on her playlist. Her answer was immediate: “There’s so many artists I have blocked on Spotify, and all of them are abusers.”

Then she added: “You certainly wouldn’t find a Chris Brown song.” Before tossing the card aside and saying: “Bye!”

At this point, it was very clear Zara’s opinion on Chris Brown had not changed whatsoever.

February 25, 2026 — Chris Brown Posts a Cryptic Instagram Message

Not long after Zara’s interview started circulating online, fans noticed Chris shared what looked like a cryptic Instagram post. He wrote: “Walk in YO PEACE LET THEM SEE THEMSELVES LET THEM HATE LOVE THEM ANYWAY.”

He never mentioned Zara directly, but fans immediately assumed it was connected because of the timing.

And just like that, the feud discourse came roaring back onto everyone’s timelines.

March 1, 2026 — Zara Holds a “Chris Brown is TRAAASSHHHHH” Shirt

Then Zara decided to lean all the way into the meme. The singer was later photographed holding a shirt featuring her original viral “Chris Brown is TRAAASSHHHHH” tweet, which was apparently given to her by a fan:

May 12, 2026 — Chris Brown Name-Drops Zara During Pitchfork Rant

And now we’ve somehow entered another chapter. After Pitchfork gave one of Chris’s projects a negative review, the best-selling artist (mind you) went on an Instagram rant criticizing critics and people who dislike his music.

During the rant, he randomly brought Zara Larsson into it. “If you not my fan, I don’t want you to listen to my sht. Go listen to motherfcking Zara Larsson or somebody.”

The fact this all started because Zara publicly said she wouldn’t support him — only for it to somehow continue nearly ten years later — is kind of wild.

So… Why Do Zara Larsson and Chris Brown Have Beef?

At its core, the feud exists because Zara Larsson has consistently criticized Chris Brown over his behavior, comments, and controversies.

Unlike a lot of celebrities who avoid directly naming other artists, Zara has repeatedly made it clear she doesn’t separate his music from his actions.

Chris, meanwhile, has occasionally responded — sometimes seriously, sometimes with genuinely bizarre insults like “stinky butt.” And every few years, the internet rediscovers the feud all over again.

Which means this may genuinely be one of the most random long-running celebrity beefs on the internet. But also? One of the funniest.
