Britney Spears has criticized—yet kinda—praised Sabrina Carpenter’s MTV Video Music Award performance.
The 90’s icon (who is basically the queen of legendary VMA moments) hopped onto Instagram on Thursday to give her two cents on Sab’s alien-kissing fiasco during her performance of Taste.
What Did Britney Say About Sabrina’s Performance?
“I didn’t watch the VMAs…but I did see stuff on my phone from YouTube of Sabrina Carpenter… Why is she kissing an alien on stage?”
Brit tried to keep things sweet (probably because she didn’t want any Carpenters to come after her), by mentioning that she “adores” Sabrina and loves her “to death.”
Still, the Baby One More Time singer was left shook and confused by Sab’s space-themed performance.

“I didn’t understand that part [the alien kiss],” the hitmaker added before asking, “Why didn’t she kiss a girl? That was weird.”
I mean, how do we know the alien wasn’t a girl, right…
But anyway, we love an unserious queen!
Britney was clearly playing with us — let’s not forget she kissed a girl, aka MADONNA, at the VMAs back in 2003. She obviously knows Sabrina was probably honoring that very performance. Britney is just messing with y’all!
After going on a tangent about coloring (she wants you to know she’s into coloring and tracing, y’all), Britney channeled her inner fan-girl, by expressing how stoked she was that Sabrina had mentioned her on the night.
“This Sabrina girl said my name on the red carpet and I thought that was kind of cool,” the hitmaker boasted. “I forget I’m famous sometimes.” She continued, “This Sabrina girl. . . Carpenter. . . Thanks! That’s cool! She made me cool!”

So Why Did Sabrina Even Kiss an Alien?
If you’re on the same page as Britney, you probably have the same question after watching that Sabrina girl at the VMAs. Why did the Espresso star kiss an alien?
Well firstly, Sabrina Carpenter was paying homage to Britney Spears’ and Madonna’s iconic kiss from 2003. The whole “alien” thing ties in with Britney’s space-themed Oops I Did It Again video which was literally sampled by Sabrina during the performance.

Sabrina was also mocking a comment Donald Trump made during the presidential debate against Kamala Harris on Wednesday, where he said Harris “‘wants to do transgender operations on illegal aliens that are in prison.”
