Are Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter Friends Now? An Investigation

Squashing old drama is always a good idea, right?

This year’s Grammy Awards were full of iconic moments—both on stage and behind the scenes (Beyoncé and Kanye, we’re looking at you!).

But one unexpected interaction that had everyone gagged was a video of Sabrina Carpenter and Olivia Rodrigo hugging it out around the artists’ tables. Wait… what?!

In the videos—filmed from a distance and unfortunately blurry—we see Olivia walking over to Sabrina’s table and giving her a hug. The two chat and gesture for a brief moment in a conversation that will forever remain a mystery. Rumor has it Liv was congratulating the Taste singer on her two Grammy wins that night?

Okaaay, maybe it’s not the crystal-clear HQ interaction we were all hoping for, and yeah, Taylor Swift’s 5’10” stature blocking the view (not even mad at her though) doesn’t exactly help. But with all the drama between Sab and Liv in mind, the internet is absolutely euphoric, satisfied, and already making fan edits of the moment.

So, Have Sabrina and Olivia Made Up?

Well, it’s hard to say based on a 10-second video. For now, I’d say it’s probably just some casual industry politeness (trying to stay grounded here, okay?). But who knows—this could totally be the start of a future friendship (and collab??).

That hug has to mean they’ve interacted before, whether through DMs or in real life. And honestly? I’m betting on it. Maybe “Livbrina” is the new “Swiftperry”—anything is possible!

Olivia and Sabrina’s Feud: A Saga

So why is the internet collectively freaking out over this ex-Disney interaction? Well, let’s rewind it a little bit and take it back to a time when Sabrina and Olivia were literal (or apparently) enemies:

Once upon a time, Sabrina Carpenter and Olivia Rodrigo found themselves in the middle of a messy love triangle involving singer Joshua Bassett. Joshua dated Olivia from 2019 to 2020, and right after their breakup, rumors started swirling that he was getting cozy with the Espresso singer

Then, in early 2021, Olivia dropped the breakup anthem of the decade, Driver’s License—and fans were quick to connect the dots. One particular line had everyone spiraling:

“And you’re probably with that blonde girl / Who always made me doubt / She’s so much older than me / She’s everything I’m insecure about”

Even though Olivia later told Radio.com that the song and “blonde girl” lyric wasn’t about Sabrina—because she couldn’t “write something meaningful or emotional about someone she didn’t know”—nobody was buying it.

It didn’t take long for Sabrina to clap back with her single Skin, where she not so subtly responded:

“Maybe blonde was the only rhyme (…) / You’ve been telling your side / So I’ll be telling mine / You can try to get under my skin / While he’s on mine (…) / Don’t drive yourself insane”

Yeah… that line right there was brutal, indeed.

For a while, the two kept the tension alive with cryptic lyrics and music video references (Déjà Vu, Because I Liked a Boy? Yeah, we saw that), but they never actually name-dropped each other. It was a full-on Cold war—but, you know, make it pop music.

Peace at Last!

We love to see it—both Olivia and Sabrina seem to have moved on with zero hard feelings. Honestly, I can’t help but wonder… did Chappell Roan (aka bestie to both) lowkey play matchmaker here? Is there hope for a collab? A girl can dream, right?

Whatever happened, our LivBrina hearts feel much lighter—like a feather now!
